The Lone Server Story

Once I was almost famous. For years, my friends and I were on the front lines: we were the Windows Server 2003 servers that powered Microsoft.com, one of the hottest Web sites in the world. Then, early last summer, everything changed. Quietly, without warning, the new kids took over. Windows Server 2008. Yes, I know, the product’s not even done yet. These were Beta 3 servers, for Pete’s sake. Long way from prime time. But there they were, humming away. No problems. All of ‘em on Windows Server 2008. Except me. The last Windows Server 2003 left at Microsoft.com.

PTC To Acquire Leading Product Development Software Provider CoCreate For $250 Million

NEEDHAM, Mass. – October 31, 2007 – PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the Product Development Company®, today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire CoCreate Software GmbH, a provider of PLM and CAD modeling solutions for approximately $250 million. CoCreate, based in Sindelfingen, Germany, is privately held, has 280 employees and more than 5,000 customers globally including Agilent, Canon, Fisher Controls, Fujitsu, HP, Liebherr, Matsushita Electric, NEC, Olympus, Phoenix Contact and Seiko Epson.

With the acquisition of CoCreate, PTC will broaden its portfolio and offer support for the most comprehensive range of modeling techniques in the MCAD industry. PTC plans to integrate the CoCreate modeling solutions with the PTC Product Development System (PDS) in order to offer CoCreate customers additional product development capabilities including engineering calculations, dynamic publishing, visualization, high-speed machining, and enterprise content and process management, and ultimately, the option of using their modeling solutions also as part of the PTC PDS.

Microsoft Turkey DPE organized a `technology and future` focused roadshow targeting 30 events all around Turkey. In 6 months, the plan is to reach 10000+ attendees.

Up to now, it's been made 20 of these events in 9 cities and reached 6000+ attendees.

DPE goal is to reach Turkish young enthusiasts through a roadshow on the interest areas of online living, mobility, photo/video and gaming. SAP Customer Advisory Board (CAB) - Feb. 13-14, 2008

The SAP Partnership Team at Microsoft is pleased to host the next SAP Customer Advisory Board (CAB) Meeting on February 13-14, 2008 in Redmond, WA.

This board is designed for Senior Technical Decision Makers (IT Professional, Architect and Developer) at customers who wish to influence the future direction of interoperability and products developed by SAP and Microsoft. The CAB will provide an environment for networking, discussion and best practices to be exchanged among experienced professionals who have worked with both SAP and Microsoft platforms and development tools.
This CAB meeting will run for a day and a half. On Day One we will split into two concurrent tracks – one designed for the IT Professional focusing on SAP implementations running on SQL Server and Windows Server, and the other designed for Developers/Architects focusing on interoperability between the SAP and Microsoft platform stacks. On Day Two (optional) we will spend half a day with Technical Product Managers from Server and Business Divisions conducting deep technical dives on topics of interest to technical professionals working with SAP in Microsoft environments (agenda below).

As host of the CAB, Microsoft also encourages participating customers to present to their fellow board members on topics covering their own SAP implementations and challenges, and to provide feedback for future product enhancements.

The combination of Microsoft and aQuantive takes the Company’s advertising platform to the next level in its ability to serve Microsoft’s first party audience assets like MSN, Windows Live, Xbox Live, and Office Live, as well as for third party publishers and applications such as Facebook and Activision game titles.

DUET News...

I would like to give you important news about DUET software. Extracts from an interview with Jeff Raikes, president of Microsoft's Business Division, in which he revealed more about the extended roadmap for Duet Software, a solution that allows information workers to interact with SAP business processes and data through Microsoft Office Application.

He says:

" We continue to see tremendous market momentum for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server with more than 85 million licenses. Microsoft Office has evolved so that the traditional client applications like Microsoft Excel and Outlook exist more and more on both the client and the server to enable new scenarios, and that server is Microsoft Office SharePoint. SAP and Microsoft together see the value in leveraging SharePoint for deeper collaboration capabilities and what we call “people-driven processes.” In Duet 2.0 you’ll see scenarios that will leverage SharePoint, and with Duet 3.0, SharePoint becomes a significant part of the platform for Duet. "

Many SAP Customers choose Microsoft Sharepoint Server as their portal solution for having simpler user experience and enhanced functionality. Now, It is obvious that DUET Software will draw more attention after being enabled on Microsoft Sharepoint Server.

If we see that the big push over the next five years is going to be the area of collaboration, Microsoft Sharepoint Server will play key role in doing business.

Dassault Systémes to acquire ICEM

Dassault Systémes(DS) has signed an agreement to acquire ICEM, a provider of surface modelling and rendering solutions. The proposed acquisition is for an estimated price of €51.4 million to be paid in cash. The completion of the agreement is subject to closing conditions. DS has not included ICEM in its financial objectives, but if the transaction is completed, ICEM is not expected to be dilutive to DS's non GAAP earnings.

Microsoft strengthens unified communications portfolio with leading enterprise group chat provider.

REDMOND, Wash. — Aug. 29, 2007 — Today Microsoft Corp. announced it has agreed to acquire Chicago-based Parlano, maker of MindAlign, a leading application for enterprise group chat. Microsoft expects to add Parlano’s group chat functionality as a new feature of Microsoft^® Office Communications Server and Microsoft Office Communicator, Microsoft’s server and client software for presence, instant messaging, conferencing and VoIP.

“Parlano has been successful in meeting the rigorous communications needs of companies in financial services and other vertical markets,” said Gurdeep Singh Pall, corporate vice president of the Unified Communications Group at Microsoft. “Parlano’s expertise and technology, added to Microsoft’s unified communications offering, will deliver customers the most complete presence, instant messaging and group chat solution on the market.”

Founded in 2000, Parlano offers group chat technology that enables people to carry on topic-specific, multiparty instant messaging discussions that persist over time. Parlano’s software is used by companies in a variety of industries, including financial services, call centers and technology, to conduct ongoing business-critical conversations.

“Parlano has helped many organizations enhance operations, improve service delivery and increase sales through more effective ongoing group communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing,” said Nick Fera, chairman and chief executive officer of Parlano. “The resulting competitive advantage will be further enhanced as we bring Parlano technology together with Microsoft Office Communications Server and Office Communicator.”

Because Microsoft’s unified communications technologies are based on standards and open protocols, Parlano has been able to create its technology architecture from the ground up to integrate with Microsoft’s unified communications offerings. Currently, Parlano’s MindAlign application integrates with Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 and Office Communications Server 2007.

After the deal closes, Microsoft will add the group chat functionality to Office Communications Server and Office Communicator, and plans to offer group chat as part of the standard client access license for Office Communications Server 2007 Software Assurance customers. Current Parlano customers, many of whom already use Microsoft unified communications software, will have increased access to the breadth of Microsoft unified communications software.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. The deal is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2007. Following the closing of the acquisition, members of the Parlano team are expected to join the Unified Communications Group at Microsoft’s Redmond, Wash., campus. Parlano is a privately held company and was represented by Revolution Partners and Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLP.
